Ternus Takes Over as Apple Prepares for Foldable Future

Apple's leadership transition is underway as Tim Cook steps down from his CEO role and becomes executive chairman. John Ternus, previously head of Hardware Engineering, has taken over as the new chief executive.

Cook remains with the company and will continue to handle strategic matters, including government relations. The transition had been prepared in advance, limiting the risk of a sharp change in direction for Apple.

The new CEO faces significant challenges, including accelerating product innovation, developing AI strategy, and protecting high profitability. The first major test for Ternus will come on September 9, when Apple holds its fall event.

The event is expected to feature the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, as well as Apple's first foldable iPhone, potentially called the iPhone Ultra. The company may also announce new Apple Watch models and AirPods.
