Tesla FSD Capabilities in Doubt as Investor Raises Red Flags

Ross Gerber has expressed skepticism about Tesla's ability to provide unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities on its vehicles. The HW4 chip, currently used in Teslas, may not be capable of handling level 3-4-5 autonomy, according to a JPMorgan investor note shared by Sawyer Merritt.

Gerber pointed out that the AI/HW4 stack can run V15 and support unsupervised FSD, but the AI4.5 compute system is designed to future-proof against rising compute requirements. He stated that this means 'the consumer's Tesla vehicle will never be a real robo cab,' as he had suspected.

Gerber has been critical of the FSD system and CEO Elon Musk's timelines for unsupervised FSD and other technologies. He mentioned that dynamic road conditions in his neighborhood are too challenging for the current system to handle.
