Texas Probes UnitedHealth Over Alleged Delayed and Denied Care
The Texas attorney general’s office has opened an investigation into UnitedHealth Group following allegations of delayed and denied medically necessary care. The probe comes just days after a similar investigation was launched into Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. Reports suggest that UnitedHealth may have bribed nursing homes to delay hospitalizations, while another case involved the insurer revoking coverage approval after a surgery had already been completed, leaving the patient with the medical bill.
UnitedHealth Group has not responded to requests for comment. The investigation will examine whether the insurer engaged in deceptive practices or violated any laws. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office announced the investigation on Monday, marking the second such probe into a major health insurer in the state within a week.
Paxton, a Republican, is currently in a tight race for a U.S. Senate seat against Democrat James Talarico. A recent poll from Fox News indicated that Talarico holds a slight lead over Paxton.
