Tezspire Scores Win in Late-Stage Eosinophilic Esophagitis Trial

AstraZeneca and Amgen's asthma medication Tezspire has shown promising results in a late-stage trial for patients with eosinophilic esophagitis, a chronic inflammatory disorder of the esophagus. The condition affects over 470,000 people in the US and can make eating difficult due to inflammation.

The study found that Tezspire significantly reduced inflammation and eased difficulty swallowing compared to a placebo. This is particularly significant as nearly half of patients do not achieve adequate disease control with current treatments, which include dietary restrictions and medications like proton pump inhibitors.

Tezspire is already approved in the US, EU, and other countries for severe asthma, where it competes with Sanofi's Dupixent. The drug generated $1.13 billion in sales for AstraZeneca and $1.48 billion for Amgen last year.
