AstraZeneca and Amgen's asthma treatment, Tezspire, has secured a pivotal clinical victory in a late-stage trial for eosinophilic esophagitis.

The CROSSING Phase III clinical trial involved 368 patients, aged between 12 and 80 years old, who were divided into three groups to receive either a low or high dose of Tezspire or a placebo.

The results showed that patients receiving the active biologic achieved histologic remission at the pivotal 24-week evaluation mark, with a peak esophageal eosinophil count of six or fewer cells per high-power microscopic field.

This represents a significant reduction in the cellular drivers of esophageal inflammation. Additionally, the therapeutic intervention met its second co-primary endpoint by significantly reducing patient-reported symptoms on the Dysphagia Symptom Questionnaire.
