AstraZeneca's asthma treatment Tezspire has shown promise in late-stage trials for patients suffering from eosinophilic esophagitis, a chronic inflammatory disorder of the oesophagus. The study demonstrated that Tezspire significantly reduced inflammation and eased difficulty swallowing compared to a placebo.

Developed with Amgen, Tezspire is already approved in several countries, including the US, as an add-on treatment for severe asthma. It generated $1.13 billion in sales for AstraZeneca in 2025.

The positive results come after a string of setbacks for the company, which has faced patent expiries and geopolitical challenges. AstraZeneca's CEO Pascal Soriot is targeting $80 billion in annual sales by 2030 through up to 20 new drug launches.
