Thieves Dupe by Ballast Sand in Nvidia-Labeled Trailer Heist

Thieves targeting AI GPU components have struck again, this time stealing two trailers from PlusAI, an autonomous trucking startup working with Nvidia. The trailers were marked with both companies' logos, likely catching the attention of thieves looking to score big on AI GPUs.

The stolen units were found at another location, but instead of finding millions of dollars' worth of equipment, the thieves discovered 20,000 pounds of sand in each trailer. The sand was used as ballast, a common practice in the industry to stabilize cargo during transport.

This incident highlights the growing problem of petty theft involving AI GPU components, which have become extremely expensive due to the data center construction boom. Enterprises and startups are being targeted, with some thieves resorting to brazen methods such as pushing or spinning security escorts off the road to get away with valuable equipment.
