Three Companies at 52-Week Lows Show Warning Signs
Three well-known companies are facing challenges that investors should be aware of. Home Depot (NYSE:HD), B&G Foods (NYSE:BGS), and Churchill Downs (NASDAQ:CHDN) have all reached their 52-week lows, creating a dilemma for potential buyers.
Home Depot has struggled with low annual sales growth of 3% over the last three years compared to its peers. Its same-store sales have been disappointing, indicating customers are not responding well to its product selection and store experience. The company's gross margin is also relatively low at 33.1%, a result of its commoditized inventory.
B&G Foods has experienced annual revenue declines of 6% over the last three years and negative impact on earnings per share due to new share issuances. Its high net-debt-to-EBITDA ratio of 7× could lead to unfavorable capital raising if market conditions worsen.
Churchill Downs, known for hosting the Kentucky Derby, has struggled with below-average returns on capital despite impressive revenue growth of 15.5% over the last five years. However, improving returns on capital suggest management is identifying more profitable investments.
