Tim Cook sells $63.9 million in Apple shares under pre-arranged plan
Former Apple CEO Tim Cook sold approximately 191,753 shares of Apple stock in early October 2026, totaling about $63.90 million. The shares were sold on October 2 at prices ranging from $330.66 to $334.50 per share. This transaction followed the vesting of 374,541 performance-based restricted stock units (RSUs) on October 1, with 199,038 shares withheld for tax purposes. Cook also donated 26,325 shares as part of the transaction.
The sale was conducted under a pre-arranged trading plan established in May 2026, known as a Rule 10b5-1 plan. This plan allows corporate insiders to set conditions for automatic trading in advance, reducing the risk of discretionary trades using non-public information. The RSUs were awarded in October 2023 and were based on Apple’s total shareholder return over the past three years, which ranked in the 76.2 percentile among 480 peer companies.
Following the sale, tax handling, and donation, Cook still holds 3,237,843 Apple shares through a trust. He stepped down as Apple’s CEO on September 1, 2026, and is now serving as executive chair of the board, with John Ternus taking over as CEO.
