TinyRetroPad: A Lightweight Open-Source Alternative to Microsoft Notepad

A Microsoft engineer has released an open-source alternative to Notepad called TinyRetroPad. The app is designed to be simple and lightweight, weighing in at just 2.7KB.

Notepad's recent updates have added AI features that can rewrite and summarize text with the help of Microsoft Copilot, but these features require a subscription and can make the app cluttered and confusing.

TinyRetroPad strips away unnecessary features and stays true to Notepad's original purpose as a simple text editor. It includes basic functions like opening and saving files, find and replace, word wrap, font settings, printing, and a line-and-column indicator.
