Transformative Partnership Boosts Cancer Care for Children in Developing Countries
Luke Thomas, CEO of World Child Cancer, reflected on his organization's transformative collaboration with Amgen at the International Society of Paediatric Oncology, SIOP global conference.
The session focused on effective collaboration and how two seemingly different organizations had built a partnership that was making a significant impact.
Amgen, a large biotech company, partnered with World Child Cancer, a non-governmental organization working in countries where Amgen has no presence. Despite their size difference, both parties were able to work together effectively by focusing on what children with cancer needed most, and how they could change that by working together.
The collaboration started in 2023 and is already showing significant improvements in healthcare systems, quality of care, healthcare workforce, and survival rates. Thomas emphasized that this success was not due to chance but rather the result of a shared strategic objective and values between the two organizations.
