Trenton's Amazon Data Center Plan Hits Roadblock in Madison Township

Madison Township in Ohio has officially objected to Trenton's plan to annex over 600 acres for a proposed Amazon data center. The township trustees voted on Monday to object, citing concerns about how the development could affect residents. They also rejected Amazon's offer of $5 million to allow the annexation without objection.

Madison Township Trustee Jeff Willoughby filed the objection paperwork with the Butler County commissioners, stating that protecting residents was their top priority. He said that while the financial benefit was significant for the township, it wasn't enough to overcome their concerns about traffic, road maintenance, noise, wastewater, and stormwater management.

The proposed development would span roughly 600 acres currently located in Madison and St. Clair townships. The city of Trenton declined WCPO's request for comment on Madison Township's decision. The process is being used because the proposed development meets the state's requirements for a major economic development project, including more than $10 million in private real and personal property investment and at least $1 million in annual payroll.
