Trump Demands Oil Companies Lower Gas Prices Ahead of Midterms

US President Donald Trump called on oil companies to lower gasoline prices for American consumers, criticizing Chevron CEO Mike Wirth for not crediting his administration's efforts in helping the oil industry. In a social media post, Trump wrote that without his administration's support, the oil industry and country would be 'DEAD!'

The president pointed out that Chevron was thrown out of Venezuela but is now back and doing better than ever before, expecting to make a fortune. He urged other oil companies to follow suit and lower consumer oil prices.

Higher gas prices and cost-of-living concerns pose a political risk to Trump's Republican Party ahead of the November midterm elections. Despite global oil prices plummeting after Trump called off a planned attack on Iran, gas pump prices do not necessarily follow suit.
