Trump Extends $100,000 Fee on H-1B Visas Until 2027
The Trump administration extended its executive order to impose a $100,000 fee on H-1B non-immigrant visas for another year. The policy will remain in place until September 21, 2027, with limited exceptions for workers and companies deemed to be in the national interest.
The White House cited significant abuses of the H-1B visa program as the reason for extending the fee, which has proven to be highly effective, according to a statement. The number of registrations from large tech staffing firms has fallen 92% since the new system took effect, while more applications are now for workers with advanced degrees and higher-paying job offers.
More than 700 petitions have included the $100,000 payment, but the fee does not apply to every H-1B worker. Renewals of current visas and entry into the US by foreign citizens already on student visas are exempt from the fee.
