Trump Praises Boeing Over Flydubai Hijacking Incident
President Donald Trump praised Boeing for producing a plane that could withstand extreme forces and strain. He commended the Boeing 737 MAX after it survived a violent cockpit altercation and a dramatic plunge before making an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when flydubai Flight FZ1073, carrying 174 people from Dubai to Tel Aviv, was allegedly hijacked by its co-pilot. The co-pilot is said to have stabbed the captain, Smit Machchhar, and tried to crash the plane.
However, despite being seriously wounded, Machchhar managed to open the cockpit door, allowing passengers and crew to confront the alleged attacker. Passengers reportedly helped overpower the suspect, and other flydubai crew members took control of the aircraft, diverting it to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised those who intervened, saying they prevented a major disaster. The incident has been described as an attempted terrorist attack by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz.
