Trump Slams Big Oil for 'Too Much Money' Amid Soaring Fuel Prices
U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly criticized ExxonMobil and Chevron for their high profits from higher fuel prices, calling them 'too much money.' Trump made the comments during a press conference on Monday, just three days after the oil giants reported record-breaking second-quarter earnings.
The companies' strong earnings were largely due to the ongoing conflict in Iran, which has driven up global oil prices. ExxonMobil and Chevron have both seen significant increases in revenue from higher crude prices and refining margins since the war began in February.
Trump's comments come as gasoline prices continue to rise, with the national average currently at $4.10 per gallon. This represents a 30% increase in prices since the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran earlier this year.
In his remarks on Monday, Trump also targeted Chevron Chief Executive Mike Wirth for not crediting his administration's efforts in helping the oil industry during an appearance on Fox News. Trump claimed that without the 'genius' of his administration, the oil industry would be dead.
