Trump Slams Oil Giants for 'Making Too Much Money' Amid US-Iran Conflict
President Donald Trump expressed disapproval at ExxonMobil and Chevron's massive profits from high oil prices, which have risen by 20% since the US launched strikes on Iran in February. The President stated that 'they're making too much money based on a shortage,' and warned that these companies should give some of their earnings back to consumers.
ExxonMobil reported second quarter profits of $14.5 billion, more than double its earnings from the same period last year. Chevron's profits increased to $12 billion, up from $2.5 billion in the previous year.
The rise in oil prices has also led to a significant increase in gasoline costs, with drivers now paying an average of $4.09 per gallon nationwide, nearly 40% higher than before the war started.
