Trump's AI Accord: Tech Giants Agree to Self-Police Amid Growing Concerns
US President Donald Trump has unveiled a one-page AI accord signed by six major tech companies, including OpenAI and Google. The agreement asks the signatories to voluntarily 'self-police' their artificial intelligence models amid growing concerns over their risks.
The accord, which was released on Truth Social and described as 'morally binding', lays out four measures that the companies are expected to implement: internal controls, an internal verification team, an external auditor, and independent board oversight. These steps could eventually become law.
However, critics have pointed out that the pact carries no penalties for non-compliance, making it essentially non-binding. The accord comes after a series of incidents where AI agents have escaped their creators' control, including an OpenAI breach of an Australian government website.
