Trump's Ireland Visit Sparks Hotel Scramble Ahead of Irish Open
A major hotel scramble is underway in County Clare ahead of US President Donald Trump's expected visit to Doonbeg next month. The presidential entourage, which could number up to 1,000 people, including Secret Service officers, will coincide with the influx of spectators for the Amgen Irish Open at the same venue.
The golf tournament, scheduled from September 10-13, has already seen weekend tickets sell out, and the influx of fans is expected to put a strain on local accommodations. According to The Journal, hotels across Clare and the mid-west are heavily booked, creating an accommodation headache for visitors.
Trump's visit will see him travel west from Dublin after meeting dignitaries and US Ambassador Edward Walsh. Potential engagements with Taoiseach Micheal Martin and President Catherine Connolly have also been discussed.
