A consortium including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has acquired nearly 40% of Liverpool FC from Fenway Sports Group (FSG) in a deal valued between £5bn and £6bn.

The group, named 1892 Holdings after Liverpool's founding year, includes Bezos alongside British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia, who will become the club's vice-chairman. Bhatia previously held a stake in Queens Park Rangers for 18 years before selling his share last month.

This investment represents a strategic minority stake, and there is an option for the consortium to purchase a controlling interest within the next 12 months. However, this does not involve a formal commitment at present.
