Trump's Secret Stock Trades Exposed: Over 1,000 Deals Worth Up to $270m
US President Donald Trump made over 1,000 stock trades in July, worth between $79m and $270m. This is according to a recent analysis of his financial disclosure. The largest sales were of Amazon and Microsoft stock, with each sale valued between $5m and $25m on the same day.
The Guardian analysis found that Trump made more than 700 sales worth between $35m and $137m, and over 440 purchases worth between $43.5m and $134m. The trades were made through computer-based model portfolios that automatically replicate recognized indexes.
According to the White House, Trump's stock and bond portfolio is independently managed by third-party financial institutions. They claim there are no conflicts of interest in the latest disclosure.
The July disclosure comes as Trump champions a ban on stock trading among members of Congress. However, this would exclude him from any restrictions. The president made more trades than all of Congress combined between his second term and June, according to a Bloomberg analysis.
