TSMC Poised for Big Gains as Semiconductor Industry Surges
The semiconductor industry is expected to continue its strong growth trajectory in 2027, driven by increasing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) data center capacity. Market research firm Gartner forecasts that the industry will generate $1.9 trillion in revenue next year, up from $1.6 trillion this year.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC), the world's largest foundry, is poised to benefit significantly from this growth. The company's key customers, including Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Nvidia, will raise prices to accommodate TSMC's rising chipmaking fees, which are set to increase by 10% in 2027.
TSMC's cheap valuation and strong earnings growth potential make it an attractive investment opportunity. The company trades at 21 times forward earnings, a discount to the Nasdaq Composite index's average earnings multiple of 39. Analysts expect TSMC's earnings per share (EPS) to reach $16.93 in 2026 and jump to $21.93 in 2027.
However, some analysts believe that TSMC may outperform these expectations and deliver even higher earnings growth next year. If this happens, the company's stock price could surge to $711 by the end of 2027, representing a potential upside of 56% from its current level.
