Turkish Airlines Lands Up to 150 Boeing 737 MAX Jets Amid Fleet Expansion Plans
Turkish Airlines has finalized an agreement with Boeing to purchase up to 150 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, in support of its fleet expansion and short- and medium-haul network. The deal includes 100 firm orders for Boeing 737-8 aircraft and options for 50 additional 737 MAX jets. Turkish Airlines also has the flexibility to substitute some of these orders with Boeing 737-10 models.
The agreement was finalized in the presence of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Türkiye. Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee Prof Murat Şeker stated that this order marks another step in the airline's fleet expansion, bringing greater efficiency and flexibility to its operations. The Boeing 737-8 will primarily support the airline's short- and medium-haul operations, including domestic and international routes.
With a range of benefits such as lower fuel consumption and emissions compared to previous-generation aircraft, the Boeing 737-8 is an ideal addition to Turkish Airlines' fleet. This new deal comes after the airline committed in 2025 to order 75 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The agreement also reflects the ongoing partnership between Turkish Airlines and Boeing, which has been strengthened by a recent Memorandum of Understanding on Industrial Participation.
