Turkish Airlines Orders 100 Boeing 737 MAX Jets in Multi-Billion Dollar Deal
Turkish Airlines has finalized its order for 100 Boeing 737 MAX jets after roughly one year of negotiations. The agreement covers the airline's narrowbody fleet renewal and expansion plans as it works toward its 2033 centennial growth targets.
The deal was signed in New York on September 23, 2026, in the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, underscoring the geopolitical weight the agreement carries alongside its commercial significance. The order includes options for 50 more jets, bringing the potential total to up to 150 aircraft.
The 737 MAX program has been struggling with production and delivery issues, but Boeing's willingness to work through engine-related friction appears to have preserved the deal. Turkish Airlines had signaled frustration with Boeing during negotiations, citing concerns over terms set by CFM International, the GE Aerospace and Safran joint venture that builds the LEAP-1B engine.
