Turkish Airlines Places Massive Boeing Order Amid Shift to Profit Focus
Turkish Airlines has made its largest Boeing narrowbody order to date, purchasing up to 150 737 MAX aircraft. The agreement includes 100 firm orders for the 737-8 model and options for an additional 50 planes. Turkish also has substitution rights for the larger 737-10, allowing the airline to adjust aircraft size as demand evolves.
The order marks a significant milestone for the airline's new leadership team, led by Chairman Murat Seker and CEO Ahmet Olmustur. The pair is taking a more measured approach to fleet expansion, prioritizing profitability, network quality, and efficiency over growth.
Seker, a former chief financial officer, has emphasized the importance of balancing Turkish's appetite for expansion with its focus on profitability. This order represents an early test of this new calculus.
