Turkish Airlines Places Record 737 MAX Order Amid Engine Uncertainty

Turkish Airlines has finalized a deal with Boeing for up to 150 737 MAX aircraft, its largest single-aisle order to date. The agreement puts an end to months of uncertainty after negotiations over engine terms threatened to derail the deal entirely.

The order includes 100 firm Boeing 737-8 jets and options for 50 more. Turkish Airlines also has substitution rights built in for the larger 737-10 variant, giving the carrier flexibility to adjust capacity as demand shifts.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was present when the deal was signed, along with Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stephanie Pope.
