Twitch Users Become Unwitting Training Data for Amazon AI
Twitch's decision to share user content with Amazon AI for training has sparked outrage among users. The platform, owned by Amazon, allows its content to be used to train generative AI models by default.
This means that streamers' live broadcasts, including their faces and voices, are being used without explicit consent from the users themselves. The Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (AP) in the Netherlands has advised Twitch users to opt out of sharing data with Amazon AI, citing concerns over personal data and user control.
According to Ars Technica, this is not a new development - Amazon has been using Twitch content for AI training since 2024. However, it wasn't until recently that the option to opt out was made available in the Streamer Dashboard under Settings > Security and Privacy.
