UK Offers Faster Permanent Residency for Innovator Visa Holders
The UK government has announced a new pathway allowing certain visa holders to obtain indefinite leave to remain (permanent residency) after just three years in the country. This accelerated route is available to holders of the Innovator Founder visa or the earlier Innovator visa. Applicants must meet strict residency requirements, including spending no more than 180 days outside the UK in any 12-month period during the qualifying three-year period.
The application process comes with a significant fee of £3,226 per person. Successful applicants gain the right to live, work, and study in the UK without time restrictions and may eventually apply for British citizenship. However, the processing time for these applications can take up to six months, and additional checks or interviews may extend this period further.
According to UK Home Office guidance, applicants must submit their application up to 28 days before meeting the three-year requirement. Applying too early or traveling outside the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands, or the Isle of Man during the application review can result in automatic withdrawal of the application. Those who are not yet eligible for settlement may need to renew their visa first.
