Ukraine Targets Russia's E-commerce Hubs as Conflict Escalates
The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia has taken another turn as Kyiv's military targets e-commerce logistics hubs in the country. In recent weeks, Ukraine has been striking sites belonging to Wildberries, which is known as Russia's Amazon due to its vast delivery network of clothing, electronics, groceries, and household goods.
However, Ukraine has now shifted its focus to Ozon, a competitor to Wildberries and Russia's second-largest e-commerce retailer. Overnight strikes have hit six Ozon facilities since Saturday, when Ukraine announced it was targeting the company's logistics hubs.
The attacks have caused significant damage, with fires breaking out at multiple sites in regions including Krasnodar, Dagestan, Adygea, and Stavropol. The firm has reported that staff were evacuated from several locations, while two children were killed and seven others injured due to drone debris in the Krasnodar region.
Ozon's shares have plummeted 28% on the Moscow Exchange following the latest attacks, while its major shareholder, private equity firm AFK Sistema, has seen its shares fall by over 13%. The satellite imagery shows that more than 50,000 square meters had burned out at the Ozon warehouse in Samara Oblast.
