Ukrainian Asylum Seeker Spared Conviction for Repeated Home Depot Thefts

A Ukrainian asylum seeker who repeatedly stole from Home Depot in Ontario has received a conditional discharge and probation.

Levan Meskhia, 40, pleaded guilty to theft under $5,000 and breaching court orders stemming from an incident on February 11, 2026. He was caught stealing electronics while already on bail for an earlier theft from the same store.

Meskhia was also driving with a suspended license when he was caught. The judge expressed concern about Meskhia's repeated criminal conduct and warned him that continued activity could jeopardize his ability to remain in Canada.
