UN Launches Open-Source Platform for Global Statistics
The United Nations system has launched an open-source platform called the UN System Data Commons to make global statistics easily accessible. The platform, built on Google's Data Commons, integrates critical global data into a single searchable resource, making it easier for researchers and leaders to track progress in real-time.
The UN System Data Commons unifies siloed datasets, allowing analysts to focus on uncovering key trends instead of formatting spreadsheets. Natural language features enable users to explore the platform with intuitive search, asking questions in plain language and receiving relevant data and interactive visualizations.
The platform also brings AI assistant capabilities directly into the research workflow, enabling AI agents to autonomously fetch authoritative figures and connect the dots across different domains. The UN system will continue adding datasets from more entities over the coming year, with a goal of including 80% of UN system statistical datasets by 2027.
