United Airlines Boeing Forced into Emergency Landing at Heathrow

A United Airlines flight was forced into an emergency landing at Heathrow Airport in London after experiencing a mechanical issue. The Boeing 767 jet, carrying 216 passengers, departed from Venice Marco Polo Airport on Monday morning and began its nine-hour journey to Newark in New Jersey.

Just a few hours into the trip, crew members sounded the international squawk code 7700, indicating a general emergency involving a technical fault. The plane descended from 30,000 feet to 17,000 feet and entered a holding pattern to jettison excess fuel, a standard protocol for aircraft facing premature landing.

The flight was able to land safely at London Heathrow Terminal 2 just over two and a half hours after leaving Venice. United Airlines stated that the aircraft landed safely and they are working to rebook customers on the next available flight to Newark.
