A United Airlines trans-Atlantic flight made an emergency diversion to London Heathrow on Monday after encountering a technical issue mid-flight.

The Boeing 767-400ER, registration N76062, departed Venice Marco Polo Airport at 11:21 CEST and was heading for Newark Liberty International Airport when the crew transmitted a squawk 7700 code due to a general emergency.

To prepare for an unscheduled landing, the crew descended the jet to 17,000 feet and entered a holding pattern to jettison excess fuel. The flight touched down safely on runway 09L at London Heathrow Airport approximately two hours and 35 minutes after taking off from Venice.
