United Airlines Unveils 'Elevated' Premium Long-Haul Flights with Redesigned Boeing 787-9

United Airlines is revamping its premium long-haul flights starting in October 2026 with the deployment of its new 222-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, dubbed 'Elevated.' The aircraft will operate on four major international routes from George Bush Intercontinental Airport: São Paulo, Tokyo Narita, and Sydney, all commencing on October 24, 2026. Houston and London Heathrow will join the list on January 5, 2027.

The 'Elevated' interior configuration features a redesigned Polaris business class with suite doors and all-aisle access, offering a more private experience. The front of the cabin includes eight Polaris Studio suites, 25% larger than standard seats, complete with companion ottomans. Premium Plus has been expanded to 35 seats in Economy, boasting modernized seats and bigger screens.

United Airlines is betting on premium cabins for long-haul operations, where profitable revenue streams are often generated from high-paying customers at the front of the cabin. By focusing on these lucrative spaces, the airline aims to position itself as a credible premium international carrier, surpassing competitors like Delta and American Airlines.
