United Cancels 9/11 Flyover Over Community Concerns

United Airlines has cancelled its planned memorial flyover over Denver on September 11 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the attacks. The airline had scheduled a Boeing 777, escorted by four Colorado Air National Guard F-16s, to perform a flyby over the United Flight Training Center at around 9:03 am, corresponding with the time United Flight 175 struck the South Tower of the World Trade Center.

The planned formation was expected to be highly visible and audible, prompting Denver's Office of Emergency Management to issue advance notice. This included preparing emergency dispatchers for potential calls from residents who might mistake the flyover for an actual emergency.

Despite the cancellation, United Airlines will still observe the anniversary with other memorial events. A 9-foot-11-inch monument made from World Trade Center steel is set to be unveiled at the Denver training center in honor of the crews of United Flights 175 and 93. Additionally, employees from both United and American Airlines will hold moments of silence at Denver International Airport.
