United Unlocks Privacy Doors on Select Boeing Jets

United Airlines has introduced a new feature that allows passengers in its Polaris suites on certain Boeing 787-9 aircraft to close their doors for extra privacy. The move is part of United's Elevated interior, which was debuted earlier this year. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), all premium seating must meet stringent certification standards to comply with safety and evacuation requirements.

The FAA notes that while premium seats and suites have become more complex in recent years, regulatory requirements have not significantly changed. United plans to offer similar doors on its upcoming Airbus A321XLR aircraft, but has not yet announced a service entry date.

United currently operates the Boeing 787-9 with Elevated interior on several routes, including between San Francisco International Airport and Singapore Changi Airport, London's Heathrow Airport, Seoul's Incheon Airport, and Zurich Airport. The airline expects to have at least 30 Boeing 787s with Elevated interiors by 2027.
