A federal court in Kentucky has allowed Healthcare Justice Coalition, Inc.'s lawsuit against UnitedHealth Group's health insurance arm to proceed, giving the debt collector a chance to amend its complaint.

The lawsuit, filed in September 2025, alleges that UnitedHealth underpaid medical groups for out-of-network emergency care. This is part of a series of legal challenges Healthcare Justice Coalition has faced in recent years.

UnitedHealth had attempted to dismiss the lawsuit, but the court denied its motion, allowing Healthcare Justice Coalition to add more specifics to its complaint. The outcome gives Healthcare Justice Coalition an opportunity to strengthen its case against UnitedHealth.
