UnitedHealth Group Names Robert Hunter as UnitedHealthcare President Amid Operational Reset
UnitedHealth Group has made significant changes to its leadership structure, with Robert Hunter taking on the role of president of UnitedHealthcare. This change is part of a larger effort to modernize and improve operational efficiency within the company.
Hunter previously led the group's government programs division and brings his expertise to this new position at a time when employer coverage pressures and regulatory scrutiny are key operating issues for the company.
One area where UnitedHealth is making significant changes is in its prior authorization requirements. Starting October 1, the company will no longer require prior approval for a broad range of conditions, with the goal of eliminating prior authorization for 30% of healthcare services by year-end.
The second-quarter results for UnitedHealth Group were strong, with revenue reaching $112.03 billion and earnings per share coming in at $6.38, surpassing expectations. However, the company's stock price remains below its yearly high, trading at $367.08 on September 30, 2026.
A federal judge has also allowed an investor lawsuit to proceed against UnitedHealth Group, alleging that the company concealed weaknesses in its Medicare Advantage business and overstated earnings by $3.3 billion in 2024.
