UnitedHealthcare CEO Killer Pleads Guilty to Federal Stalking Charges

Luigi Mangione, 28, pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges in connection with the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The incident occurred on December 4, 2024, when Mangione shot and killed Thompson on a New York City street.

Mangione admitted to trailing Thompson to an investor conference and gunning him down. He used a ruse to contact the company for details on the event, posing as an investor at a multibillion-dollar firm.

The Manhattan federal court heard that Mangione made a 3D-printed pistol and had been planning the attack for some time. He told the court that he was motivated by his own experiences with severe back pain and frustration with the health insurance system.

Prosecutors plan to seek a life prison term at Mangione's sentencing, set for December 18. Mangione still faces a state murder case, which carries the potential for a separate long sentence.
