Uniwise Offshore Launches Innovative Trimaran Crewboat for Gulf of Thailand Operations
Uniwise Offshore, a Thai maritime operator, has launched the Uniwise Commander, a pioneering trimaran crewboat designed to enhance personnel transportation to Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production’s offshore facilities in the Gulf of Thailand. Built by Marsun and developed in collaboration with Uniwise Offshore and Chevron, the vessel is the first of its kind in Thailand to serve the offshore petroleum industry. The Uniwise Commander features a hybrid hull configuration combining a semi-SWATH design with motion-damping foils, allowing it to operate smoothly in significant wave heights of up to 2.5 meters.
The vessel’s specifications include an overall length of 38 meters, a beam of 12.6 meters, and a draught of 3 meters. It is powered by three Baudouin engines, each delivering 1,545 kW, and can reach speeds of up to 34 knots. The Uniwise Commander has a passenger capacity of 90, with seating designed for comfort and a panoramic 270-degree view. Chevron anticipates that the vessel will reduce travel time by up to 30% compared to conventional crewboats.
Marsun highlights that the trimaran design not only increases deck space and stability but also allows for the transport of both personnel and equipment together, potentially reducing operating costs per trip. The vessel’s assignment includes routes connecting shoreside bases to offshore facilities within Uniwise’s regional operations. Chevron’s offshore personnel are stationed at Benchamas, North Pailin, and South Pailin, with the Uniwise Commander expected to enhance efficiency and safety in personnel transfers.
