US Air Force Deploys First F-15EX Fighter Jet to Japan

The US Air Force has taken a significant step towards modernizing its fighter force in the Indo-Pacific region. The first F-15EX Eagle II, bound for Kadena Air Base in Japan, has departed from Boeing's facility in St. Louis and is currently en route to Portland Air National Guard Base in Oregon.

The aircraft will undergo further preparations at Portland before making its way to Kadena, where it will replace the legacy F-15C/D fleet. The transition to the F-15EX is expected to provide Kadena with a more capable and adaptable combat aircraft, while sustaining the base's ability to generate ready airpower in the region.

The F-15EX boasts advanced features such as digital fly-by-wire controls, an all-glass cockpit, and modern mission systems. It also has the capacity to carry hypersonic weapons and can operate in highly contested airspace with its advanced AESA radar and EPAWSS electronic-warfare suite.

The aircraft's payload capacity of 29,500 pounds makes it ideal for missions in the Indo-Pacific region, where range and flexibility are crucial factors. The introduction of the F-15EX is also closely tied to the broader US-Japan defense relationship, with opportunities for bilateral training and integration with Japanese and other allied forces.
