US Anti-South Asian Hate Surges by 240% Since January 2024
Anti-South Asian hate in the US has surged by 240% since January 2024, according to a report from the Center for the Study of Organized Hate (CSOH). The spike in online abuse coincides with an increase in offline harassment and violence towards South Asians. The CSOH report analyzed anti-South Asian rhetoric on X, 4chan, 8chan, and Gab from January 2025 to June 2026.
The report found that Indians accounted for a large percentage of the abuse related to immigration, H-1B visas, and allegations of South Asians taking American jobs. The CSOH estimated the Indian community in the US to be around 5.2 million in 2025, with over 70% of H-1B visa holders being from India.
The report highlighted the significance of immigration issues and H-1B visas in anti-South Asian rhetoric. It also noted that people are using generative AI to produce racist images and videos of South Asians, creating stereotypes and slurs as visual content.
