US-China Pact Brings Giant Pandas to Atlanta Zoo
Two giant pandas have arrived in Atlanta as part of an agreement between the US and Chinese governments. The bears, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, departed Chengdu in southwestern China early Sunday aboard a dedicated 'FedEx Panda Express' Boeing 777 aircraft.
The flight landed at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta later that morning.
A new agreement between Zoo Atlanta and the China Wildlife Conservation Association makes Atlanta one of three zoos in the US to house giant pandas.
According to officials, visitors will have to wait awhile to see Ping Ping and Fu Shuang as they will be quarantined for about a month in a biosecure area of the wildlife park's new giant panda complex.
