US-China Summit Looms Amid Ongoing Trade Talks
The US and China are set to hold a key summit this week, where President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will discuss crucial economic issues. The meeting is expected to focus on tariffs, critical minerals, artificial intelligence, and other pressing topics.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is also scheduled to meet with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng ahead of the visit. The summit is likely to draw top technology executives, including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Apple Executive Chairman Tim Cook, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon.
Meanwhile, US stock futures traded higher in the overnight session late Sunday ahead of the key summit. The Dow futures climbed 0.27%, while the S&P 500 gained 0.34%, and the Nasdaq-100 edged 0.54% higher at 10:03 PM EDT.
Market analysts expect a continuation of the existing trade truce, with Josh Gilbert from eToro noting that 'Don't expect too many fireworks... because the focus is likely to be an extension of the existing trade truce rather than anything groundbreaking.'
