US Energy Secretary Chris Wright will visit Venezuela on September 2, where he is expected to announce Chevron's plans to expand its operations in the country. The development comes after a historic oil agreement between the governments of Venezuela and the United States.

The deal, which was finalized through the Pentagon's Office of Strategic Capital, gives the US a direct ownership stake in Venezuelan oil fields previously influenced by Chinese and Russian corporations. This strategic arrangement aims to secure long-term US energy supplies and allows for crude purchases at cost.

Venezuela holds an estimated 65 billion barrels of proven reserves, a fraction of its total reserves, which are valued at over double that amount. The block was previously under Chinese and Russian corporate influence, but the new deal seeks to anchor a Western Hemisphere-aligned economy in Venezuela.
