US Expands Visa Social Media Checks to Include I, TN, and TD Visa Categories
The US Department of State has announced that it will expand its online presence review to include applicants for I, TN, and TD visas from October 1. The expansion covers foreign media representatives, professionals under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), and their dependants.
The new policy requires applicants to make all their social media profiles public as part of the screening process. This is in addition to existing categories that already face these checks, including F-1 and M-1 student visa applicants and their dependants.
The department stated that it draws on all available sources during visa screening to identify applicants who may be ineligible to enter the US, including those who could pose national security or public safety risks.
