US Judge Rules Trump's Green Card Freeze for 75 Countries Unlawful
An Indian-American judge has ruled that the Trump administration's Green Card freeze targeting applicants from 75 countries is unlawful.
The decision, made by Judge Amit Mehta of the US District Court for the District of Columbia, concerns a lawsuit filed by Newton De Moura Gomes against the US State Department.
Gomes, a Brazilian national, applied for an immigrant visa through the EB-5 program and challenged the Trump administration's Green Card freeze impacting 75 countries, including Brazil.
In his decision on July 31, Judge Mehta wrote that the Public Charge Policy exceeded the US Secretary of State's authority under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) in the United States.
