US Seeks Faster Aircraft Certification Amid Growing Competition from China
The US government is pushing to accelerate the development and certification of new commercial aircraft after years-long approval delays affected programs such as Boeing's 777X and 737 MAX 7.
US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has called for a faster and more efficient aircraft certification system, arguing that the current process can take too long and discourage companies and investors from putting money into new aviation technologies.
The proposed reforms aim to reduce procedural bottlenecks that slow down certification of new commercial aircraft. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is already working on changes intended to modernize the aircraft certification system, including reducing exemptions and special conditions required during the approval process.
