US Stock Market Sees Slight Rebound as Treasury Yields Cool
The US stock market saw a slight rebound on Thursday, with the S&P 500, Nasdaq 100, and Dow Jones Industrial Average all ending higher. The S&P 500 rose 0.2%, while the Nasdaq 100 increased by 0.3% and the Dow Jones added 0.04%. This came as Treasury yields cooled down, reversing their earlier trend of rising.
The Russell 2000, which tracks small-cap stocks, also saw gains of 0.4%. The tech sector was particularly strong, with Micron Technology's (MU) after-hours earnings quadrupling last quarter and Nvidia (NVDA) leading the charge in semiconductors. The VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) and the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) rose by about 1.5%.
The upcoming release of September employment data on Friday is expected to bring more volatility, with Dow Jones consensus projections anticipating 84,000 payroll additions and an unchanged unemployment rate of 4.1%. The Federal Reserve's path remains a major focus for investors, with traders pricing in a 72% probability that policymakers hold borrowing costs steady in October.
