US Stock Market Trading at 9% Discount to Fair Value Amid Macro Headwinds
The US stock market is trading at a 9% discount to its fair value estimate. However, this undervaluation is highly concentrated among seven mega-cap stocks.
Nvidia, Alphabet, Broadcom, Microsoft, Meta Platforms, Amazon.com, and Tesla are the most undervalued companies in the US market, with their valuations dependent on forecasts of continued growth from artificial intelligence buildout.
The market has lost confidence in these companies' ability to realize future growth, despite strong guidance for 2027 and 2028. As a result, momentum has reversed course, and many high-momentum stocks have rolled over and fallen since June.
Macrodynamics are also increasingly challenging for the equity market, with rising long-term interest rates, anticipated Federal Reserve rate hikes, elevated inflation, and stagnant international economies contributing to uncertainty.
